Lay it Down

I had a head full of rocks and a belly full of stone

And I was sinking to the bottom so I left my home

I ran to the city to lighten my load

Where I learned right quick I was all alone

And carrying weight is what a man must do

Cause won’t nobody carry weight for you

So I moved that rock from my head to my chest

I carried on and I did my best

Till you came and you said

Lay it down

Put your burdens on the ground boy

You came and you said

Lay it down

I had a belly full of stones and a heart made of rock

I took a lot of chances and I got caught

So I ran down south to lighten my load

And I learned right quick I was all alone

Carrying weight is what a man must do

Cause won’t nobody carry weight for you

So I moved those stones from my belly to my feet

And I set myself in the hard concrete

Till you came and you said

Lay it down

Put your burdens on the ground boy

You came and you said

Lay it down

Let your concrete crumble

Your rocks will wear away with time

And the stones you’ve laid have paved your road to mine

You had a heart full of love and a belly full of life

I went down on a knee and you became my wife

You took me in your arms to lighten my load

And I learned right quick I was not alone

But carrying weight is what a man must do

So now I carry that weight with you

So we moved those stones from my feet to the ground

When you picked me up I laid them down

And you came and you said

Lay it down

Put your burdens on the ground boy

You came and you said

Lay it down

Let your concrete crumble

Your rocks will wear away with time

And the stones you’ve laid have paved your road to mine
